Next Masterclass: 15 to 21 December 2010
at Ardingly College, Sussex, England.

There are numerous ways to interpret a piano piece as there are numerous ways for an actor to express his talent for the same role.

My ambition is to help young pianists by putting at their disposal my professional experience as a concert pianist but also by sharing with them new ideas, opening them up to new perspectives and together make some headway.

My approach is not to deliver musical knowledge as such but to help the artist give the best of himself. I will encourage expression of human and artistic qualities, of intuition. I will analyse and go beyond mere technical difficulties, enabling nuts to be loosend, always for the sake of musicality.

A separation between technique as such and musicality cannot be envisaged as they are parts of the same sum. Nadia Boulanger liked to tell to her students : "Do not play to be exact - it must be exact, but that alone is nothing."

Transparency, naturalness and spontaneity are essential qualities achieved through hard labour and thought through musical choices. All this combines to reach the desired sound. A pianist who can be identified by his personal sound is like a painter arranging his colours on a canvas : brushstrokes reveal the artist's inner world, his understanding of music and his feelings.

Beyond the lesson, meant to be short and intense, it is a world that we propose to discover together.

The next Masterclass is scheduled from 15 to 21 December 2010 at Ardingly College, Sussex, England.
